Chrysalis Nation: How Political Upheaval Drives Evolutionary Awakening

A Note to My Spiritual Friends: This article may start with a political conversation, and I recognize that you are not used to this type of article from me, but bear with me while I set the stage for how political upheaval drives evolutionary awakenings, how to become a chrysalis nation, and how to find your footing, your anchor, in the midst of our collective unrest. I openly acknowledge that I may lose some subscribers, but I hope you will read through the article and approach it with respectful curiosity before you go.

Political Upheaval

I was in Madrid, Spain, in late April this year, and as I was walking through a bus terminal, several people were handing out flyers. I politely took one and walked away. It was a flyer announcing a May 1st protest against Trump and dictatorship, in Madrid, no less. I had to go back to thank the woman who handed me the flyer and thank her for standing in solidarity with those in the US who do not stand for the tactics of fascism. We didn’t speak each other’s language well, but the appreciation and hope were felt by both. Later this year, the No Kings rallies were the largest single-day protests in U.S. history.

Being powerful and creating powerful change now requires more than rallies and protests; it requires a willingness to see where you have been complacent – complaining but not participating in discovering and enacting third-alternative solutions to the problems you face. And it requires being willing to see how your efforts have been ineffectual, even if it hurts, even if you have to develop a new understanding that challenges your previous belief system.

For years, Project 2025 was being meticulously planned and executed in secret by a small faction of people who want to remove women’s rights, women’s voices, and the voices of anyone with a dissenting opinion from their hardliner, hard right, Christian nationalism viewpoints. The people who initiated this “Project” were smart. It wasn’t a project; it was a systematic plan to overthrow the democratic system without a bloody revolution. They knew political science. They knew how to turn people’s fear of disenfranchisement and biases into a weapon. They knew history and how to generate the most significant amount of change in an extensive system quickly, thereby preventing disruption to their plans.

They literally stole the playbook from several authoritarian dictators from the past. If you don’t believe me, or you would like to learn more, study The Enabling Act of 1933 in Germany, bypassing legislative oversight, Mussolini’s control of the police and the elimination of his opposition, and then replacing civil servants with political appointees to silently take over government agencies instead of staging a violent coup. This is a page out of the Hungarian dictator Viktor Orbán’s playbook. And there are more moves that the current administration has made that mimic other authoritarian regimes, like reducing judicial efficacy. Did they intentionally review and study these historically successful government takeovers? I don’t know, but they certainly do play out.

The Democrats, on the other hand, have been systemically ineffective, and their Project 2029 is currently weak on many levels and needs to address these weaknesses, or they will never be as effective in manifesting real change for the broader population. So, how does all this political upheaval, unrest, insecurity, and uncertainty drive evolutionary awakening, and why should you care as a sensitive, spiritually minded person focused on being love in the world, integrating your awakening, kindness, and love?

What is Evolutionary Awakening and Why It Matters Now

Astrologers and social and political scientists have been saying for a very long time that what is happening now is meant to happen at this time. It may be very hard to understand why the very foundations of our social experiences and constitutional and judicial rights are being so flagrantly violated and dismantled are meant to happen at all, but let’s first look at what evolutionary awakening is to help us understand.

Evolutionary awakening is a stage of awakening, both individually and collectively. In the individual awakening journey, we become a new thing, develop a new set of spiritual eyes, new values, new desires, all while not knowing what is coming next, much like the caterpillar in the cocoon. The individual evolutionary awakening process creates a profound shift in consciousness that creates an expanded sense of identity and purpose, and creates an understanding of one’s connection to the larger unfolding of the very fabric of life itself. One in this process has a sense that they are directly contributing to the evolution of humankind as an agent of collective growth. Not everyone experiencing a psycho-spiritual awakening goes through evolutionary awakening, but it can be a stage people experience. Collective evolutionary awakening changes the psycho of the global community in drastic ways, introducing new ideas and philosophies that eventually change laws and ways of life.

The elements of these two types of evolutionary awakening, the individual and collective, are coming together in our collective experience right now. Many are awakening from their old way of thinking. Some on the far left are seeing how their push for progression with disdain for those who vilified them, engaging in name-calling and vilification just as much as those on the far right, only creates more division. Some on the far right are recognizing they don’t want the harsh consequences they are witnessing, and did not realize the extent of the consequences and their unintended effects. We are witnessing a gradual shift, albeit slowly, as the veil of illusion is being lifted for an increasing number of people. The illusion of the wolf in sheep’s clothing, the regular man behind the wizard’s flashy stage, is beginning to disintegrate.

Historical Evidence of the Positive Effects of Evolutionary Awakening

While each of the following examples may not have permanently and perfectly solved the problems they addressed, the overarching themes did, in some way, permanently change the psyche of the global community. Each in their own way was a backlash to the lack of awareness, greed, hatred, and indifference they experienced.

We can also examine the following examples and see how a backlash to the successes they created set the stage for future unrest, helping us think more holistically about the potential solutions we attempt to create in our current circumstances. What problems did these solutions create? What backlash did it create? What could have been taken into consideration to mitigate backlash? What were the blind spots of the overarching theories that instigated the movement for change? What didn’t get taken into consideration? If they vilified those they considered to be the cause of their problems, how did that contribute to the backlash?

With each example, you can see the expansion, little by little, of not only a broader understanding of interconnectedness and human rights, but also how the increasing consciousness of the previous time supported and upheld a less violent approach in the future. Each evolutionary leap has the potential to increase the overall consciousness of mankind. I know there are others that I haven’t mentioned below, such as Gandhi’s nonviolent revolution, but I think the following are some of the most well-known and influential for our topic at hand.

The French Revolution and the Enlightenment (1789 – 1799)

The Enlightenment period was governed by the ideology and philosophy of reason and liberty, and created the idea of throwing out old power regimes like the Catholic Church, the Monarchy, and the nobility, replacing them with more rational lines of thinking. No longer adhering to the belief that the Monarchy was God’s representative, recognizing that Kings and Queens were not divine beings. While the revolution was bloody (not very high consciousness), the ideology of government was of higher consciousness; the idea that the government needed to have the consent of the governed, freedom and equality, and governmental organization to include checks and balances of power. All these enlightened principles of the French Revolution ended up codified in our constitution. While the collective consciousness wasn’t high enough to not kill the royalty and nobility, it was high enough to enact these new principles. The United States Bill of Rights, which modeled these principles, states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” The American Constitution is the first of its kind to give rights to the human soul. This is no small thing. While these principles were tested, defined, and redefined, they have stood the test of time at their core as a shining light for future generations and other nations around the world. Although the consciousness level was not high enough to offer these principles to every man at the time, they did lead to the next leap of evolutionary consciousness about 150 years later.

The American Civil Rights Movement (1950s – 1960s)

A fight for social justice for Black Americans to gain equal rights under the law. Their nonviolent protest brought awareness of not only the disparity between democratic ideals and the racial oppression they faced, but they also unveiled for the world to see and never hide again, the pure viciousness and hatred that spurred the death and torture of black people…of all ages, from young children to the elderly. Their nonviolent protest brought to light the hidden ugliness and disgusting treatment of man to man caused by the irrational fear of being “infected and influenced” by someone different. The great evolutionary leap this movement created was the Civil Rights and Voting Acts. It democratized many institutions and helped our society begin to understand how systemic oppression and social injustice harm and oppress not just individuals, but also society as a whole. Our collective consciousness was transformed about equality, implicit bias, and more, and not just for Black Americans, but for women, the disabled, and other marginalized populations. Since the 1960s, we have seen a succession of acts to implement equal rights across our broad citizenry. While we still live with white supremacy and racism, and we are seeing a surge of it now, this surge is seen by many as the death throes of a dying ruling class desperate to hold onto power…again, not failure, but one stage of collective human evolution.

The Fall of the Berlin Wall and Eastern European Revolutions (1989)

This is a complex history, but to be brief, on November 9, 1989, the wall that had separated Berlin, Germany, which had stood since August 1961 to prevent East Berliners from fleeing to West Berlin, was torn down by protestors in East Berlin. When Germany surrendered in WWII, Germany was divided into four occupation zones between the Western Allies and the Soviet Union. (Please forgive my very brief explanation of the geopolitical split.) Berlin was eventually split in two, the East governed by the Soviet Union and the West governed by the Western Democratic German government. The Cold War split lasted for over 40 years. Gorbachev’s transparency and restructuring policies legitimized many calls for reformation of Russian governance (from the Russians). The fall of the Berlin Wall, along with Gorbachev’s policies, created peaceful revolutions that allowed for the dissolution of much of the Eastern Bloc, effectively ending the Cold War. These evolutionary leaps of events created a shift in the balance of world forces around nuclear weapons and demonstrated that peaceful revolution is a powerful reality that can shift the course of world history. While the hope for a better world that was represented by the fall of the Berlin wall hasn’t been fully successful, it did open space for new forms of global consciousness based on democracy, freedom, and more peaceful change.

I understand these events are more nuanced than my brief explanation, and many details have been left out. For this brief article, I have focused on the underlying principles of each movement and how they have moved us forward in global consciousness.

The Greatest Weapons Against Evolutionary Awakening: Distraction and Vilification

While we are currently seeing the upswing of fascism and dictatorship around the world, not just in the US, I still believe that this is part of the evolutionary process by which we can make decisions to examine the past and future with more wisdom, and still have a hope for positive progressive inclusion and administration of human rights that includes the survival needs of the planet.

There are forces that pervert power for their own selfish gain. Whether in politics or psycho-spiritual development, the greatest tools these forces have to control your progress and ability to take action are distraction, the vilification of that which scares or angers you, and to wear you down. For example, the dictator/fascist will distract you with new enemies to rally against, manufacture or inflate problems, while negating and distracting you from the real problems and the greedy power and resource grabs/deals they are making under the table. They make changes so fast you don’t have time to respond to one change before five more are enacted. And in your psychospiritual development, your ego will bring to mind a host of memories, goals, unmet needs, and project blame and hatred onto others or yourself to either inflate or deflate your ego if your mind begins to get too equanimous. And it’s a tricky adversary; once you forgive others, it turns on you and begins to vilify you instead.

Both in spiritual practice and in times of political upheaval, we must be aware of when we feel we are succumbing to the manipulation of our attention, emotions, and energy. It’s vitally important to have trusted friends, communities, and professional advisors to help you process and return to a felt sense of presence and groundedness. This will help you develop clarity and connect with your highest values.

The Greatest Protections

#1 – Our Light – What is our Light? How do we cultivate it? Light is the expression of higher consciousness frequencies. The information of higher consciousness ideas is transmitted through light. By cultivating your consciousness as a way of life, you become a natural beacon of higher consciousness information. You may never know what the light is conveying through you, but the emotions, thoughts, and energetic signals from your brain, heart, and biophotons do influence the field you are in.

I heard the greatest thing from Pam Gregory (astrologer) she said, “Infect others with your light.” I LOVE that! It’s interesting that the people I thought would respond positively to my light and happiness did not, and some of the people I thought would be the most resistant to my happiness and light shifted dramatically into lovingness. Just goes to show we can’t make assumptions.

We infect others with our light, not by projecting it onto them, intending to influence them, which is a forceful act. We infect others with our light by simply being as intentionally loving, having healthy boundaries, and caring for ourselves and loved ones as much as possible. We infect others with our light when we do our own shadow work, think critically instead of speaking critically, do our best to live an ordered, thoughtful life, tell the truth, etc. We infect each other with our light when we refuse to be diminished in any way when someone attempts to shame us, disempower us, or unjustly rule us. When we stand for justice in the way we are called, with a steadfast loyalty to justice for all, we infect the collective consciousness with our light. And simply being a kind human and taking kind action in small ways amplifies the most powerful power, Love, into the collective consciousness.

#2 – Caring for our emotions – Grieving for the suffering of others or the anger that arises from witnessing injustice does not diminish our light. Grief is an indicator of the depth of lovingness, whether we know the people we are grieving for personally or not. Justified anger is a normal human response. But to stay in these emotions without processing them or allowing them to dictate rash action can and will diminish our light. The greatest protection in this state is to reach out for support to help you process your emotions and help you find productive action to nurture your divine light and move through your emotions, not get stuck in them, flinging them out perpetually into the collective.

#3 – Critical thinking to facilitate wisdom – watch for bias, examine your own thinking, notice when you are resistant to exploring another person’s point of view. Don’t let the rapist get away with rape, but be curious as to why the rapist’s supporters can’t see the rapist for what he is, or allow him to have power, instead of vilifying the supporters of those you disagree with and calling them names. Developing a clear understanding protects your ability to find more effective solutions and to communicate with others in a way that a broader group of people can listen to.

#4 – Our attention (and intention) – You must not only know what your intention for helpful action is, but you must holistically examine that intention and the goal it is intended to create, as I have described earlier in this article, to sharpen your vision and tweak the goal and intention of your actions. This helps you keep yourself from being distracted. We must keep our eyes on the prize, so to speak. We do this by monitoring our attention. What do you do when you are overwhelmed? We all need to take a break because compassion fatigue and outrage are real and will cause us to either check out, give up completely, or perpetually add to the collective unrest without positive change. We must take breaks while others stay focused and do the work, and then we can take over for others when it’s time for them to rest for a moment. The fight for our attention manifests in different ways, and it’s up to us to know when we are being pulled in a direction that is not helpful.

#4 – Understanding evolutionary change, individually and collectively – The gears of evolution are slow. Even though we have experienced evolutionary leaps, the integration and testing of the emerging ideologies and collective desires, and the practical application of those ideologies will be resisted, and… while those who don’t give up survive, it may take many generations of not giving up to effect the change that is in the best interests for humanity as a whole. Don’t give up because you may not have created the degree of change you want to see. You must come to terms with that slow crawl of evolution being what it is. It’s normal to want to see everything change at once. And while there will be victories along the way, there will also be defeats. This is why we need rest – to heal from the defeats, to learn from them, and integrate the wisdom from what we learn. This applies to your individual psycho-spiritual evolution as well. I’m sure you can think back on some aspect of your psycho-spiritual growth that you resisted and later made peace with. This process happens over and over, from generation to generation, from lifetime to lifetime.

If we look at the examples of evolutionary change above, we can track how one major leap affected the collective wisdom of the following generations. You can also see what resistance they met, how that resistance played out in the following decades, what was strengthened due to the new resistance, and how the initial principles in the first leap have been tested, strengthened, and weakened.

#5 – Choosing action – With so many of our basic constitutional rights hanging in the balance, what is a person supposed to do? Some souls didn’t come here to create direct change. They came to love. Perfecting their love, removing the barriers to lovingness, and evolving their souls, that is what they came for. If you are one of those, you must still practice vigilance with your attention so that you can perfect your love. And do not dismiss the power of the perfecting of love on evolutionary awakening. It is one of the greatest powers of consciousness evolution.

If you are a soul that came to partake in the evolutionary awakening for the planet, then do this – pick just one area you want to lend your energy and time to affecting. Just one. And then seek others who are working on the same thing, come together, and examine the historical context of the issue. Do not look at the solutions you are trying to create based on the current problem and the desired future effect. By ignoring the historical context, you are missing vital information that could affect your efficacy. Be a true holistic thinker by examining all the potential pitfalls. This is how you bring your light onto the earth.

Whichever type of soul you are, one that came to love the planet, or evolve their soul, or one to create change in the collective, you are all affecting change to some degree. Remember that the degree of change you effect may not be something you can always control. Surrender to the degree to which you can, never giving up and always reviewing, revising, recalibrating, and then you will be contributing to change.

We Can Be A Chrysalis Nation

We are in the phase of experiencing the disintegration of almost everything we have known to be our normal in this country. If you can see this as not a failure but a necessary stage of collective evolution, then you may be able to navigate it with more peace and wisdom. This is a stage, not a failure. We need to disintegrate that which is hidden, or false, no longer hiding the dirt under the rug just to keep things normal; we need to see the shortcomings of the current system, no matter what your political viewpoints or heroes are, we will not evolve well if we don’t. Just as with the previous evolutionary leaps I mentioned earlier, we are building upon previous consciousness shifts. With clear examination, we can see what we missed in the past. We can help each other look for blind spots. We are seeing how a lack of forethought and inclusion is contributing to the backlash. While it’s true that greed and lack of empathy will continue to exist, our light is and always will be greater than their darkness. Once we can face what has been hidden, and choose to nurture higher consciousness solutions, we can make it through this dark period, changed and more beautiful.

What comes out of the chrysalis stage of evolution comes out qualitatively changed, not just reformed; it’s a completely new thing. We have the choice of what new thing we can offer the collective right now. As you see the disintegration before you, ask what wholly new thing you want to experience because of it. What do you want to emerge out of the current disintegration and into the nation? What do others want that might be different? How can you create something together that is more beautiful than what your individual minds can imagine alone? Let’s be in the chrysalis together, to emerge as something more beautiful than before.

We don’t know what’s coming next, but can you approach whatever does arise from presence, from centeredness, with curiosity and critical holistic thinking? If you can, you will be increasing the efficacy of the Light transmission and supporting the Evolutionary Awakening of generations to come.
